How to Link to an Image in an Email Message

Leva Duell

Here's how to link to an image in an email message.

Step 1: Upload the image.

The first step is to upload the image to your server (also called host or hosting company). This can be a free hosting account. You can upload the picture by using the control panel or an FTP program.

1. Using the control panel.
Log into your host control panel and use the file manager. Most hosting companies will give you access to a control panel. This is the easiest way for non-techies to upload files and pictures without having to use FTP.
Or
2. Using FTP
If you are comfortable using FTP, you can upload the picture using FTP software. Click here to see instructions on how to FTP.

Step 2: Link to the image.

Here's how you link to the image.

If you know basic html, use the following code to point to your image.

<img src="http://yoursite.com/images/image.gif">
<img src="http://yoursite.com/image.gif">

In the first example, you uploaded your image to a folder called "images," and this image is called image.gif

In the second example, you uploaded your image to the root directory (this is the main directory where your index.html file is and you didn't put the image in a subfolder).

If you want the image to point to an affiliate program or any site you want, you could use the following code:

<a href="http://AffiliateProgram.com"><img src="http://yoursite.com/image.gif"></a>

The key is to pay attention to the location where you upload the images. Did you upload the image to the root directory or to a subfolder? Then make sure you link to the correct path as shown in the examples above.
